Clinton elaborated on why he would use the word “great” for McCain: “What I
mean by saying that about McCain is, you know, most people would’ve been
broken by what he went through. Oh, we would’ve been happy just to give him
an atta boy and a medal and let him wander through life.

“I think his greatness is that he keeps trying to come back to service
without ever asking people to cut him any slack or feel sorry for him or any
of that stuff because he was a POW.

[[ In spite of the headline, this article has some good info and makes some
good points about Palin's family and unfair news coverage. -- tdo ]]

the U.S. media has so conscientiously managed to deny itself virtually any
inquisitions of *Barack
Obama’s<
* poor half-brother in Africa and his half-sister in Hawaii and *Joe* *
Biden’s* < mother and *
Michelle < *family.

It’s not new that American political campaigns, beneath a thinning veneer of
public gentility, can be intrusive, brutal, even disgusting affairs,
especially online.

McCain knows this too well from personal experience in 2000 when his adopted
daughter from Bangladesh was portrayed in South Carolina as the illegitimate
child of a biracial affair.

[[ Note this is not really a change since January, it is a change WTHIN THE
LAST MONTH, SINCE THE MEDIA BEGAN TRASHING HER. Right after her nomination
she was still at 82% approval and about 13% disapproval. -- tdo ]]

Back in Alaska, Sarah Palin’s poll ratings tumble a
bit<http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/09/back-home-sarah.html>

But the new figure for Palin is down from a high of 82% in January, *which
she replicated in the days following her surprise selection Aug. 29* as *John
McCain’s <http://topics.latimes.com/politics/people/john-mccain>* running
mate.
Also, her disapproval rating in the survey of 500 likely voters conducted
Saturday through Monday was at 27% — *double what it was at the beginning
of the month.*

[[ Here are the real numbers that have been spun negatively. Palin's rating
was high before and through when  she got the nomination. Then the media
began trashing her and the Dems started polling against her. -- tdo ]]

Here’s Moore’s e-mail, under the heading “THE HONEYMOON IS COMING TO AN
END”:

*In a new survey conducted September 20-22, Ivan Moore Research finds Sarah
Palin’s positive-negative rating in Alaska taking a real hit, for the first
time since Palin was elected in November 2006. The survey was conducted with
500 likely voters in the State of Alaska, for a margin of error of 4.4%. The
track of the last five Palin ratings is as follows, along with a comparison
point from January 2008:*

*The mid-July poll was fielded just after the Trooper Wooten controversy
broke. The positive rating of 76% was down from previous measures in the
80’s. Despite negative press from the Troopergate issue, the subsequent
three polls through the end of September showed Palin’s positive rating
steadily increasing, and her negative steadily dropping. But in the last
three weeks, we’ve seen damage, with a swing of 14 points from her positive
to her negative.*

*Breakdowns by party affiliation and political ideology for the last two
surveys are illustrative of the internal dynamics:*

His own campaign, apparently.

For background ammunition, see www.palinrumors.com and search for ‘rape
kit’.
